Description

Arbor Place Mall, the only mall directly serving the western suburbs of Atlanta, is located in Douglasville, GA in Douglas County. Originally opened in 1999, the mall was to open originally with Dillard's, Parisian, Sears and Upton's. Current anchors include Dillard's, Parisian (becoming Belk in Fall 2007), Sears, JCPenney and Macy's. The Upton's chain folded prior to the opening of the mall, but the contract to build the store was still completed, resulting in a vacant anchor when the mall opened. This vacant anchor was later filled, however, by JCPenney. Prior to JCPenney's arrival, a home improvement chain named Dekor took over the Upton's site in 2000. The chain folded however in 2001. In 2003, JCPenney took over the site.

The two-level mall has been very successful and was the first to bring upscale shopping to an area underserved by retail. Shoppers previously had to travel long distances to other Atlanta area malls to find an upscale mall. Rich's, long planned to open at the mall, finally opened as Rich's-Macy's in 2004, one of only two stores signed with the hyphen. Arbor Place Mall was built by and is still owned by CBL & Associates. In 2006, Belk announced that it acquired the Parisian stores from Saks Incorporated, converting all Parisian stores to the Belk nameplate in Fall of 2007.

Times NOT to visit this mall:
Weekdays (teenagers are dropped off by their parents at all hours of the day--some skip school)
Weekday afternoons (the teenagers who do go to school come to the mall at this time because the 6pm curfew is not in effect on Monday-Thursday)
Saturday or Sunday (everyone who lives in Carrollton, Bremen, eastern Alabama, Newnan, etc comes to the mall and crowds the parking lot and the stores. It is impossible to find a good place to park or to find a good route to go home because the roads around the mall are filled with traffic.)

I would recommend visiting the mall between 10am and noon on weekdays. But even then you still get, like J. Johnson said, thugs. They don't just come on Fridays and Saturdays, they are there ALL THE TIME.

And as for the escort policy, it was put into place to AVOID shootings (there's already been a shooting, possibly two) and violence (there's already been at least two incidents of gang violence at the movie theatre, probably more). Kids don't need to be at the mall late at night anyhow because that's when the gang members are there trying to cause trouble. The policy was put into place to make the mall a safer place for people who shop there--adults. The kids don't shop there unless their parents give them money. Adults are the real shoppers, and they deserve to have a safe environment in which to shop.

This mall is teen haters. They have banned teens under the age of 18 from having the right to shop. This is age discrimination! I am a parent of a teen treated as a common criminal. I am calling on other parents of teens and the teens themselves to sound out about this unfair practice. This is a violation of our teens civil rights. Don't let them get away with this. Make a loud noise, go to management and complain and go to every store in the mall and tell them you are boycotting their stores because they support this policy. Contact the General Assembly and file a formal complaint for age discrimination. Don't allow them to punish the good kids for the few bad ones. STAND UP FOR OUR KIDS!

Don't do your shopping here on a Friday or Satuday evening. Way way to many thugs hanging around the movies and food court area. Did not feel safe at all. A few weeks ago they had to shut down the mall because of all the thugs that was there.
This is a nice mall but if the mall lets this continue people will stop going there. The retailers need to speak up NOW!
